UNIQUE OUTDOOR SPACES
& the history
As you look at the photo below, you'll realize this not the ordinary Vacation Rental, with the ordinary back yard or outside areas. There are some, well lets say, "Quirky" aspects to the outside areas of the River Lookout.
As you look at the below photo, you have wonder "What the heck is going on here?"
The original owner, had a mother who was disabled and could not climb stairs. He trucked in a lot of dirt and walled the dirt up, Not just what you see in this photo, but also under the house & on the sides of the house. He made the front area to the street sloping, but since the ground reclined as it approaches the river, he had to build up the ground, more and more, Making this pretty nice sized elevated back yard.
This is actually the area where Phase III of the River Lookout will be. What do you ask is Phase III? It's the, in the not too distance future, in-ground salt water pool we will be installing. We anticipate this pooling being installed in the winter of 2013/2014 and ready for our Summer of 2014 guests. It may even be heated so guests through much of the cooler months can even enjoy it.
As a Guest staying at the house, we advise caution when near the edges of the wall. There are no fences and we expect they would either be destroyed or need to be replaced during or after the pool construction. We may not even go with fences on the far edge, possibly going with an infinity pool and preserving the great river views.
PARENTS:
When considering the perfect Vacation Destination for you and your children, you want to consider if this will present a problem. The last thing we would ever want is for a single person to be injured by a careless misstep. The area below is JUST ONE area where there is a drop off because of the unique grounds of the River Lookout. They are easy to avoid, but may present challenges when curious children are involved.

Stairs to River & more yard - in a Shared area
If you need more yard, or a safer yard to toss a football or Frisbee, just beyond the walled off back yard, shown above, accessible by the below shown stairs, is a large grassy lawn, that is in the "Shared Area" you are welcome to use. If you are looking for a yard, not so close to the River, the front area by the Dalton Gang's Hideout sign is also another good, plush lawn, you are welcome to enjoy.

Front of HouseHave to admit, The River Lookout is a bit of an "Ugly Duckling" from the Street. The front is mostly gravel, but this does allow for some extra parking, should you need it.
What River Lookout DOES HAVE - Makes up for what it lacks in outer beauty! Remember it sleeps 12, has a Huge Hot Tub, Large Elevated Deck right off the front door and the entire house is newly furnished. |
Back of HouseThe Front, Sides, the Walled up back yard, & this path area are for the sole use of River Lookout Guests.
This Walled area, acts as a Great Natural Divider Beyond this area, in the back of the property, is a shared covered pavilion, a large back yard area (at ground level) & the River bank. This area is shared with guests from another Vacation Rental & rarely with Owners, their family & friends. |
JUST A LITTLE MORE HISTORY....
After Katrina, the required elevation for the River Front Property increased. It was not practical to raise the cinder block house, a previous owner had built for his Mother. Instead, we raised the Roof and built an entirely new house under the roof, with a whole new floor plan. This was all done on top of the cinder block foundation, which previously was the exterior Walls. Of course, many new piers where added under the main floor, in the basement area. The below photo shows one day, in an extremely long construction process.
